On the other side of the napkin, I like to reward waiters/waitresses who treat me well. Here are some of the things for which I give a generous tip.
1
Greeted by a generous smile. At least be happy I'm there.
2
No request is too unreasonable to at least check out with the chef/manager.
3
Knowledgeable about menu, options, and popularity of foods; refills sodas at least once.
4
Clears table after courses, keeps the water glass filled.
5
Delivers meal efficiently within reasonable amount of time after order or updates you on delay.
6
Gives you a chance to try your meal, then checks back promptly to make sure everything is okay.
7
Brings check promptly after meal is complete, completes actual transaction soon after I present credit card - there are no long delays.
8
Checks back occasionally to see if you need anything, knows when to interrupt flow of conversation.
9
Eyes my table in case I hail him/her, may even stop by if there's time to chat briefly; isn't hard to hail.
10
Is good natured about kidding, requests for changes, complaints about orders, and suggestions.
