Tickets
Packing cases and bags is the first and natural step for going away to a well deserved break whether it is by the sea or up the mountains.
However, too many times travellers concentrate on what to wear but not about taking their tickets with them. Often left on the kitchen table and having to go back home to pick them up....not a good start for a relaxing getaway.

Passports
Slightly linked with the first point! Why? Because passports & tickets are usually - and for no real reason - kept together! Maybe not a good idea in the first place. If one is lost, everything is spoiled as containing your ID and your travel destination.
So, make sure to have passports and tickets ready but separately.

Currencies
Going abroad or away of the UK means currencies.
Always better to get some before your departure. Your bank might have a better deal than the country you are visiting. Sometimes a 0% commission.

House keys
What to do with your exisiting house keys?
Find a decent place to leave them. A safe place such as with your long neighbours, brother or sister. Someone reliable.
Taking them with you would mean hassle, worries in case they were lost or stolen.
Also, do not write your address or details on the tag. Why? Just imagine the consequences if someone found them?! Free access to your property!

Plug Adapter
This one mainly if you are visiting another country, of course.
Can certainly be purchased from your hotel but probably more pricey too.

House heating & water
Turn water heater and heating down to lowest setting or change timer to once a day.
Wasting energy when away would be a shame and your monthly or quaterly bill could then be lower. A win-win.

Perishable goods in the fridge
When you are planning your holidays, make sure to either buy less food or to freeze some of them a few days before your departure.
Too often, this point is forgotten and wastage can be limited.

Wellbeing essentials
Going for a relaxing time with all the family is all fun. But everything needs to be thought - just in case of an emergency. Too many holidaymakers forget to sign up for a health cash plan. It would help and support in case healthcare is needed.
Leisure is good when nothing serious happens. But, it is important to think further and whether you go for a few days or several weeks, it is vital and this money you have invested could save your life.

Inform your friends family and employer
Informing your relatives of where you are going is important too.
In case of something unexpected occurs, they will know where to search and get it touch. Your acquaintances like to know how you are and where you are just to keep in touch. You don't have to reveal all details.
Even some work colleagues who are actually friends too can worry when there is no sign on the usual social media platforms. It is good to know that even away the company health status is safe.

First aid box
You don't have to take an extra suitcase full of medications and plasters but just a little compartment with pain killers, mosquito repellent, sun block.
It is usually when this little extra items aren't taken that it is all needed. Think for others or as if you were the one not going away: what else would you take with you?
