Le Village Buffet

Paris Las Vegas, 3655 Las Vegas Blvd. S., Las Vegas, NV 89109 / 702-946-7000
Divided into five French regions, this all-you-can-eat restaurant features classic French food and seasonal specialties under a faux sky in a village-like setting. Among the massive soup and salad bar’s appealing offerings, we like the Manhattan chowder, assorted pâtés and jonah (stone wannabees) crabs. Haling from Brittany with its copper pots and tiles picturing the food and the region, Le Village offers signature dishes such as coq au vin and prepared-to-order fruit-filled crêpes. Quiche Lorraine and steamed mussels are typical of Normandy with its blue-patterned tiles. Beef bourguignon and leek mashed potatoes represent Burgundy; spinach ravioli and veal Marengo typify Provence; Alsace displays salmon with leek fondue and Riesling-braised duck. The centerpiece of the village, a charming little "house" with picture windows, displays the lavish desserts. We like the crème caramel, bread pudding with cherry sauce and peach cobbler. Breakfast $14.99 (children 4-10 $9.99); Lunch $17.99 (children 4-10 $14.99); Dinner $24.99 (children 4-10 $21.99); Brunch $24.99 (children 4-10 $21.99).

The salad bar, which also offers sushi, includes romaine and Caesar with traditional trimmings. Best among several good soups is tomato basil. Village Seafood Buffet

Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, 3700 W. Flamingo Rd., Las Vegas, NV 89103 / 702-252-7777
This is the Rio's other buffet, devoted entirely to seafood---both in the cuisine and the nautical atmosphere. A rowboat hangs from the beamed ceiling, fish artifacts and photos of fish adorn the walls. Tiled walls dress up each station with names such as Pike Street American Fisheries Seattle Trading Company (also offering carved-to-order prime rib), Sao Paulo Grill (with sushi and sashimi), China Seafood Traders (South Pacific seafood) and Baja Seafood Co. There is so much and the quality remains so high that you can't go wrong. The array of dishes ranges from a huge cold bar to fried, stewed, grilled, blackened---well, if it swims you can enjoy it and as much of it as you can put in your net. There's also Toscano's Baking Co., a salad bar, a dessert fountain and Jake's Bar with hand-crafted beers and classic wines.
