Make a thorough inspection of your house each year.
Remove old stumps or dead trees from the yard.
Do not bury wood scraps in your yard it can draw these unwanted pests.
Avoid using mulch so close to your home that it touches the exterior.
Keep any shrubbery or greenery pruned away from the sides of the house.
Keep the exterior of the house painted well so that there are not any worn sections of wood that are exposed. This keeps termites out by not allowing an entry way.
Keep all wood and debris far away from any of your wood structures.
Use a good wood sealer to provide a weather seal on exposed wood such as the bottoms of walls and exterior window frames.
Make sure there is no standing water or moist soil near your structures. They need moist soil to survive.
