It’s a blue collar sport
Fans may complain of being priced-out of seeing football games at the stadium nowadays, but there will always be something workmanlike in football. The NFL was founded almost casually in a dealership for a car brand that hasn’t existed in decades by men who not only owned but occasionally even played for their teams. Before football became a sport played by the wealthy, most players would get offseason jobs in order to support themselves until the following season. It is also expected that players not complain whether they have to play in the mud, snow or heat.

The game is visceral
The grunts of linemen and impact of the hits can almost be felt in the stands or through the television. That is an impact that only football can really boast. And you don't need HDTV or surround sound tog et it.
3
The game is fast
4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4… Thos familiar with football immediately recognize the preceding numbers as 40-yard dash timings. Part of football’s appeal is the incredible speed at which the action takes place. Seeing a running back run downhill or a wide receiver speeding down the sideline is an exhilarating sight. It is a sport in which a player’s career can be determined by fractions of a second on a stopwatch.

The game is a gladiatorial contest
This is similar to 2. The hard-hitting, violent nature of football is equal amounts strategy and brute strength, similar to what we might imagine a Roman gladiatorial contest to be like. Modern crowds can be equally unforgiving to the participants.
5
Everyone has a chance to be coach
From the comfort of home football gives us a chance to call the plays we think should be run, identify the play we think is being run or criticize the play that was just run. Goal line, fourth down, Hail Mary, flea flicker, hook, slant, flat… no other sport can enrich our vocabulary and yet make us harder to understand than football. Just knowing what a few of these mean is all you need to know to coach from your own sofa.

Football attracts some of the best athletes in the world
Just think about the numbers in 3 for a moment. That is the time in seconds it takes for a 200-plus pound man to run 40 yards. That is about as much time as most people need to get a sandwich from the plate to their mouths. That is the equivalent of running the combined lengths of 1 ½ blue whales (just about). Most of us needed to take a nap in the middle of running a 40 yard dash in elementary school.
7
It is a game of strategy
Despite the extremely physical nature of football, it is still a game of strategy. Almost like a game of chess played out on a grand scale, or war games in miniature, football requires preparation, foresight and crisp execution. All of these things are expected to be provided by a dedicated coaching staff in which some specialized members concentrate on only one position.

Football is a social game
Watching a game virtually puts you in the company of thousands of other people at the stadium, on the radio or at home with the same devotion as you. Super Bowl Sunday is almost a national holiday with people gathering from all over just to watch the season’s climactic game. Football is the lifeblood to countless blogs, radio stations, websites, television channels and periodicals. Football is a sport that binds communities together as they follow the travails of their favorite squad.

Football is like an heirloom

The season is only five months long (not really)
